Swim currentPartlyJets, not a propeller: Trainer models get two patented V-Twin jets on two 5 HP pumps with 10 levels; AquaSport jets are hand-adjusted and the AquaPlay only switches on and off.PartlyTwo swim jets on every model except the J-13, whose count isn't published; 4 to 10 hp of swim power, plus buoyancy jets on the bigger ones.
Room to swimPartlyHydropool publishes the lane: 88 to 153 inches of usable swim area, about 3.5 feet deep, with no deep version.PartlyJacuzzi publishes a usable swim length for every model, 96 to 148 in, but no water depth, and its own J-16 figures disagree.
Frame and shellPartlyA steel frame under a fiberglass-backed acrylic shell, warranted 10 years against cracking; Hydropool doesn't publish the steel's gauge or coating.YesGalvanized steel frame on a moisture-proof polymer base under a three-layer acrylic shell; frame gauge and shell backing are not published.
Site prepYesThe 2024 install guide and pad article set strict rules: a mandatory reinforced concrete pad, level enough that no frame gusset needs more than a 1/8 in shim, and a 50 or 60 A GFCI circuit (two circuits on the 19DTAX).YesClear, detailed install guides: a 4-6 in reinforced slab on crushed stone for 250 lb/sq ft, usually a crane, and 50 or 60 A (two circuits on the J-19DT).
Running costNot publishedHydropool doesn't publish this.PartlyFull foam plus heat-reflecting insulation on most models and heat-pump-ready plumbing, but Jacuzzi publishes no energy figure for any swim spa.
Dual zoneYesOnly the two 19DTAX models are dual-zone: a separate 5-seat hot tub with its own 4 kW heater and pump, on its own 40 A circuit.YesThe J-19DT is a true dual-temperature spa: a walled-off hot tub with its own electronics, controls and 50 A circuit.
Service accessYesBuilt to be serviced: removable panels, blanket insulation away from the shell, Gecko controls, and published clearance rules of 2 ft all round.YesJacuzzi requires access to every side (24 in crawl space, 3 ft at the equipment end when recessed), and the current runs on ordinary jet pumps.
Warranty termsPartly10 years structure, 5 surface, 3 equipment and plumbing, 1 cabinet; repairs paid only at Hydropool's flat rate, and not transferable.Partly10 years structure (water loss only), 7 surface, 5 on equipment, plumbing and cabinet, parts and labor, on a 2020-dated card for the first owner only.
Cover and lifterPartlyA locking, hinged foam Safety Hard Cover comes with the spa; cover removers appear only in the option lists, and the cover has a 1-year guarantee.PartlyA sectional, lockable hard cover appears to ship with the spa; no lifter is listed, and the swim spa warranty excludes the cover.
Service and originPartlyBuilt in Mississauga, Ontario, and serviced by the selling retailer; Hydropool's site lists 178 US retailer locations across 41 states.PartlySold and serviced through Jacuzzi dealers; Jacuzzi says only 'North America and elsewhere', and its swim spa paperwork carries Hydropool's name and Mississauga address.

Verdict: Hydropool suits swimmers who want the longest shell (18 ft 10 in). Jacuzzi suits swimmers who want published swim-area sizes (10 of 10 models).

No manufacturer pays us. How we make money

How is the swim current made in Hydropool and Jacuzzi swim spas?

Hydropool uses jets in 9 models (Aquatic Collection, Executive Collection and Play Collection). Jacuzzi uses jets in 10 models (Flow Series, PowerActive Collection, PowerPlay Collection and PowerPro Collection).

A propeller turns behind a grate and pushes one wide column of water. Jets fire water through a few nozzles, often with air mixed in, so the current is narrower and more broken up. What you feel is the width and steadiness of the water, not the horsepower on the spec sheet. The guide to swim spa jets vs propeller explains the trade-offs.

Which gives you more room to swim?

Hydropool publishes the open swim area for all 9 models; the longest is 153 in, on the AquaTrainer 17AX. Jacuzzi publishes the open swim area for all 10 models; the longest is 148 in, on the J-19 PowerPro.

Outside lengths run 12 ft 6 in to 18 ft 10 in for Hydropool and 12 ft 4 in to 18 ft 5 in for Jacuzzi. By length class, Hydropool has 1 in the 12-foot class, 3 in the 14-foot class and 5 in the 16-foot class; Jacuzzi has 2 in the 12-foot class, 4 in the 14-foot class and 4 in the 16-foot class. At the dealer, lie out in an empty display of the model you would buy, arms overhead: your feet shouldn't reach the seats. See swim spa sizes, 12-foot swim spas, 14-foot swim spas and 16-foot swim spas, and best swim spas for lap swimming.

Water held runs 1,345 to 2,409 gallons for Hydropool and 1,345 to 2,432 for Jacuzzi. More water means more to heat, treat and carry: have a builder or engineer check the pad or deck for the filled weight.

What electrical service do Hydropool and Jacuzzi swim spas need?

Hydropool's models call for 50 to 100 A in total on 1 to 2 circuits; Jacuzzi's call for 50 to 110 A on 1 to 2 circuits. The top of each range is the AquaTrainer 19DTAX and the J-19DT PowerPro. A licensed electrician sizes the circuits for the model you buy. See swim spa electrical requirements.

Which uses less power on standby?

Neither brand's models matched a filing in California's appliance database, so we have no measured standby figure for either. Ask each dealer for the model's California listing. The swim spa running cost guide explains what the number means.

How do Hydropool and Jacuzzi swim spa warranties compare?

Hydropool's structure warranty runs 10 years, equipment 3 years; coverage does not transfer. Jacuzzi's structure warranty runs 10 years, equipment 5 years; coverage does not transfer. Read the warranty card for labor and the swim system itself, which some makers cover for less time than the shell.

Which costs less, Hydropool or Jacuzzi?

Neither brand posts prices, so a dealer's quote is the only figure. Swim spa cost covers delivery, the pad and the electrician.
