What is a swim spa with a hot tub side?
One cabinet with two bodies of water. A wall or acrylic divider splits a long swim side from a short hot tub side, and each side has its own controls, so the swim water can sit in the low 80s while the hot side runs at 100 to 104°F. Bullfrog describes the two chambers as each often having its own heater and pump.
That means two sets of equipment to buy, to power and, one day, to repair. What to check before you buy one is in how dual-zone swim spas work.
How much swim room does the hot tub side take?
The hot side comes out of the cabinet's length. 11 of the 30 combos publish an open swim length, with a median of 9′ 5″. The 15 swim-only models 18 ft or longer that publish one have a median of 12′ 4″.
The rest give only the cabinet size. Ask the dealer for the open swim length of the swim side, measured from the current to the divider, and lie out in the empty swim side with your arms overhead to check the room.
What does a dual-zone swim spa cost?

The other brands quote through dealers. Delivery, the pad and the wiring come on top. The rest of the bill is on what a swim spa costs.
How much power does a swim spa with a hot tub side need?
27 of the 30 need two or more separate circuits, and one needs three. Three run on one 60 A circuit: the Cal Spas Olympian F-1868DZ, the Endless Pools E2000 and the Endless Pools X2000. Master Spas' H2X manual gives its two-sided models two separate 50 A supplies, one for the swim side's controls and one for the spa side's.
A licensed electrician sizes each circuit. Every model's amps are on swim spa electrical requirements.
How is the current made on these?
Of the 30, 26 push the water with jets, 3 with a propeller and 1 with a named system the maker doesn't explain. The guide to swim spa jets vs propeller explains the difference, and Endless Pools vs Master Spas compares two makers that sell both.
What does one cost to keep warm?
We couldn't match a California standby listing to any of the 30, so there is no measured figure to show. Two heaters hold two bodies of water at two temperatures. Ask the dealer for each side's heater size and what the maker's own energy figures are.
