How we make money
Every site that ranks hot tubs is paid by somebody. Most of them will not tell you who. Ours is on this page, linked from the footer of every page on the site.
You never pay us
There is no fee, no membership and no paid consultation. The research, the quizzes, the price range and the dealer introduction are all free to you, whether or not you end up buying.
We are paid one way
Dealerships pay us for customer introductions. When you send one of our forms, a price request, a quiz or the course, we follow up with you, and with your OK we introduce you to one dealer near you who sells what you're looking for. That dealer pays us a referral fee for the introduction. We introduce you to a second dealer, or switch you to a different one, only if you ask or say yes. That is the whole business. No manufacturer pays us, and none ever has.
Because dealers pay for these introductions, some state privacy laws may treat one as a “sale” of personal information. We make one only after you tick the consent box, and you can tell us at any time not to introduce you to any dealer, or to any more. How it works, in the privacy policy.
Going direct is fine
Nothing stops you from calling a brand or a dealer yourself, and everything on this site stays free either way. But if the research helped you, getting the price range through us is what pays for the site and keeps it up to date. We would appreciate it.
What that money does not buy
It does not buy a ranking. The comparative statements on this site (standby power against same-size peers, warranty terms against the median, jets per seat) are computed from 37,061 figures we read out of manufacturer documents. Nobody can pay to change one of those numbers, because the number is not ours to change; it is theirs, and we link to where they published it.
It does not buy silence either. We record every place a manufacturer’s own documents contradict each other: 1,635 for hot tubs so far, for every brand.
Where our conflict of interest is
We are paid when we introduce you to a dealer, so we have a reason to want you to send us your details. Pretending otherwise would be the dishonest move. Two things keep it in check, and you can audit both.
First, every factual claim carries a link to its source, so you can check us against the manufacturer rather than taking our word. Second, the picks and the quiz results are ranked on those published facts, the same way for every brand, and each shows the reasons next to it.
What we do not do
- We do not take money from manufacturers.
- We do not send your details to more than one dealer, or switch you to a different one, unless you ask or say yes.
- We do not take payment to move a model up a list.
- We do not publish review scores of our own invention.
- We do not fill empty price data with estimates to make the site look busier.
