Wellis
Hungarian-built tubs from what the maker calls Europe's largest spa factory, sold on low running costs, a heat pump tucked into the step, a patented electronic diverter and list prices posted right on the website.
The long read: how the tubs are built, the complaint record, the warranty part by part, and the company’s history.
How it started
The Czafik brothers started the business in 2003 trading sanitaryware and wellness products, adding their own brand in 2005. When the 2008 crisis hit bathroom sales, they turned to outdoor hot tubs and built a plant in Dabas, which began production in 2010.
What Wellis is known for, and the catch
How it’s built
Eight things that decide whether it lasts. Tap any for the detail.
Self-supporting shellA polymer frame and ABS base carry the tubNo
Every spec sheet lists the shell and the Wellis PolyStyrol frame as separate parts, with the frame attached to the shell and to the floor pan. The shell is not built to hold the load on its own. The frame is recycled polymer rather than wood, so it will not rot or rust.

Clamped plumbingBarbed and glued fittings; clamping is likely but unconfirmedPartly
Trunk lines are glued rigid PVC, and jets connect by barb to flexible reinforced hose. The factory stocks Oetiker clamps sized for those barbs, but no photo or service document shows how the joint is actually finished. The no-leak warranty runs three to five years depending on series.

Manifold-fed jetsManifolds split water to each jet, not jet to jetYes
The factory parts shop sells manifolds with 4 to 12 outlets, each feeding one jet on its own line. That keeps pressure even instead of draining it down a chain. Short runs of two or three jets may still be teed off directly.

Standard partsBalboa and Gecko electronics; everything wet is Wellis-onlyPartly
Control packs and pumps are industry-standard parts any technician can buy and diagnose. Jets, manifolds, and pipe are metric Wellis part numbers with no equivalent on a US shelf. A Waterway jet body will not fit, so wet-end repairs go through the Wellis channel.

Compression-fitted jetsJet bodies bolt in with a nut and gasket, per Wellis's own parts storeYes
Wellis sells its current jet bodies as sets with a housing, a back nut and a gasket in 2-, 3- and 5-inch sizes, and sells the nuts on their own. Older V1 and V2 bodies and a few specialty jets aren't documented. Nothing shows glued bodies.

Adjustable jetsOne seat has adjustable jets; most control is zone-levelPartly
Wellis claims direction and strength control on its Expert massage seat. The rest of the tub is managed by air regulators and a diverter that shifts pump output between whole zones. No manual or teardown shows how many individual jet faces turn or close.

Service networkFactory parts shop is open, but it ships from HungaryPartly
Anyone can order parts from the Wellis webshop at listed prices without a dealer login, which beats several US brands. Stock and pricing are European, so a US owner waits on an overseas order or goes through a dealer. Wellis only entered the US around 2020, so dealer coverage is thin.

Ózd, Hungary: Second plant, an HUF 8.5 billion project begun in 2020. The company told HVG in 2024 that all its hot tubs are made here.
What Wellis says, part by part8
Wellis doesn't say how jets join the plumbing. A dealer write-up says jet holes are robot-drilled and fitted with compensating washers before the jet bodies go on.
Pipe type not published. Wellis says it straightened pipe runs for the WOW electronic diverter on PeakLife Premium and uses a 2-inch line for circulation.
'Life Scandinavian' rigid boards fitted into the frame and floor plus reflective foil; some Premium tubs add an air-pocket floor. At least one CityLife model lists only 1 cm of insulation.
Barbed, clamped or glued? What it means3
Hose slides over a ridged fitting and a clamp holds it. Easy to service, but clamps are one more thing that can loosen.
Pipe is solvent-welded into the fitting and becomes one piece. A strong seal, but a leak repair means cutting and re-gluing.
Which method this model uses, whether the joints are reachable for repair, and what the plumbing warranty covers.
What owners and watchdogs say
A BBB letter grade rates how a company handles complaints, not how happy owners are. Read it next to the complaint count and the reviews.
How complaints ended, and the reviews by star1
- 19 Resolvedthe customer accepted the company's answer
- 34 Answeredthe company replied; the customer didn't confirm it was fixed
- 0 Unresolvedthe company replied; the customer said it wasn't fixed
- 0 Unansweredthe company never replied
The company replied to 53 of 53. BBB counts 55 in three years but publishes 53; the rest aren't shown. A complaint count means more next to how big the company is.
What owners complain about4
Recent one- and two-star reviews from the US, UK and Germany describe claims that stalled for months after an inspection and repairs still open after a year.
The touchscreen, control panel or Gecko control board is the part owners most often say failed, sometimes followed by the wrong replacement or a long wait.
What owners praise3
Most recent five-star reviews praise fast, helpful answers from Wellis staff, such as identifying a part from a photo and shipping it quickly. Wellis invites these reviews, and most rate a support contact, not years of ownership.
