Caldera Spas error codes and logo lights

Short answer

Caldera tubs signal most faults with lights rather than codes. A blinking gray logo light means the heater high limit tripped, a blinking orange light means a temperature sensor problem, and orange flashing 1 second on and 3 off is the salt system, whose menu then shows error code 4 or 5.

A hot tub control panel showing an error code, and the owner's manual, which names the control system
The panel shows the code. Its label is often the spa's brand, so check the manual for the control system.

What you can check yourself

  1. Turn the power off at the breaker for 30 seconds, then back on. Once.
  2. Clean the filter, or replace it if it is worn.
  3. Check the water level and top it up to the line in your manual.
  4. Purge an air lock the way your owner's manual describes.

Where the owner's part ends

Anything else: turn off power at the breaker and call a technician.

Caldera's manual says to call for service if the high limit keeps tripping or a sensor light keeps blinking after a power reset. Turn off power at the breaker. See what a high limit is.

What do the Caldera logo lights mean?

On the 2026 Utopia Series, orange means ready (the water is within 2°F of the setting) and gray means power. A blinking gray light is a tripped heater high limit, from water above its range or low circulation such as clogged filters. A gray light that is off points at the control box or the power supply. The Paradise Series shows the same faults on the panel: power blinking with four lines in the display is the high limit.

What do Caldera's salt error codes mean?

They come from the built-in salt system, not the heater. The orange light flashing 1 second on and 3 off tells you to open the salt menu and read the code. Code 5 points at too little salt or a missing cartridge; code 4 at a damaged cartridge or too much salt. Salt levels are water care, so test before adding anything. See hot tub water chemistry.

Do Caldera and Hot Spring use the same codes?

Not the same lights. Both brands belong to Watkins Wellness, and both manuals reset a tripped high limit by turning the power off for 30 seconds, but Hot Spring's 2026 Highlife adds E codes on its touchscreen. See Hot Spring error codes.

Common questions

What is error code 5 on a Caldera spa?

A salt system code, shown in the salt menu. Caldera's steps: confirm the salt level is 1,750 ppm with a salt test strip and check that a salt cartridge is installed. If neither fixes it, contact your dealer.

What is error code 4 on a Caldera spa?

Also a salt system code. Caldera says to inspect the cartridge for damage and test the salt: above 2,500 ppm can cause it. The manual gives a half-and-half dilution test, and a drain and refill if the level is still too high.

Why is the gray light blinking on my Caldera?

The heater high limit has tripped. Turn the power off for at least 30 seconds to reset it, then check for clogged filters. If it keeps tripping, call for service.

Why are both lights blinking on my Caldera?

On the Utopia Series, orange and gray blinking together with no heat mean the integrated pressure switch is open or the circulation pump's thermal cut-off tripped. Clean the filters and check for air locks.
